Peer-Leader Training
All ASLA peer leaders take part in a comprehensive initial orientation, and engage in ongoing professional development and regular interactive staff meetings throughout their peer-leader experience. Training activities address group facilitation and communication, student learning, diversity & inclusion, and more.
Peer leaders in the Peer-Guided Study Groups, Mentored Study Program, and Drop-In Tutoring programs take the SESP 291 course as part of their training. This two-quarter, 0.5-credit-per-quarter course is designed to help peer leaders
- gain practical group facilitation skills, and leverage the talents, perspectives, and experience they already have that can help you become an excellent facilitator;
- gain knowledge of the dynamics of small groups, and bring this knowledge into their leadership;
- become familiar with learning research and theory, and bring this knowledge into their leadership;
- gain knowledge and confidence around baby直播app inclusive learning environments for their students; and
- reflect on their academic leadership practice and develop self-evaluation skills.
The course integrates three essential components of learning — academic knowledge, “on-the-job” training, and engagement with a learning community — to create a unique learning experience at baby直播app.
Students who exceed 5.5 credits because of enrollment in SESP 291 do not incur an additional tuition charge.
