We are so glad that you're considering joining ASLA's team of peer leaders!

ASLA recruits new peer leaders during each winter and spring quarter, for the following academic year. While we have completed hiring for the 2024-25 academic year, you are still welcome to apply at any point during the year for consideration.

ASLA peer leaders support students in mastering course-based learning as well as honing their general academic skills. We have opportunities that fit a variety of schedules and interests. All positions are paid, and peer leaders receive comprehensive training through ASLA. Please note that new peer leaders must be available for all three quarters of the academic year.

Keep in mind that there are two different applications, one for course-specific tutoring and baby直播app-group programs, and another for peer coaching and mentoring programs. You can access the course-specific application under "Course-specific application information," below, and the coaching and mentoring application under "Academic coaching and mentoring application information," below. The deadline to apply is February 18, 2025.

Opportunities with course-specific support programs

Peer-Guided Study Group Leaders

Peer-guided baby直播app group leaders meet weekly with the same small group of students to help them review and refine their understanding of key concepts in a particular course, collaboratively work through practice problems, and prepare effectively for quizzes and exams. The program runs in science, math, engineering, and social science courses.

Mentored Study Program Leaders

Peer leaders meet weekly, beginning week 2, with a limited-size group of students to help clarify student questions, support students in reviewing and refining their understanding of key concepts, collaboratively work through practice problems, prepare for quizzes and exams, and discuss effective baby直播app strategies. The program runs in select science, math, engineering, and social science courses.

Drop-in Peer Tutors

Drop-in peer tutors staff Sunday and weeknight drop-in sessions to provide group and one-on-one help to students enrolled in particular courses. Runs in social science, science, engineering, and mathematics courses.

Study Group facilitators and tutors need to have done well in the associated course (although an A is not necessary), have outstanding interpersonal skills, and care about helping other students.

Opportunities with academic coaching and mentoring programs

Peer Academic Coaches

Peer Academic coaches work one-on-one with fellow undergrads to help them enhance their approaches to baby直播apping and learning.

UPAL peer mentors meet weekly with the same small group of students to help them enhance their general academic strategies and skills and work through academic challenges.

Course-specific application information

Peer-Guided Study Groups, Drop-In Tutoring, Mentored Study Program

What is the application process?

To be considered for the position, all applicants must

  • submit a fully completed application
  • meet grade requirements (B+ or higher in courses you wish to lead)
  • attend an interview

How can I apply to be a course-specific peer leader?

You can apply for a course-specific position . The peer-leader application is thorough, so we recommend you take your time completing it. The general outline of the application is as follows:

  • Background information
  • Program commitment (program interest, availability, transcript submission)
  • Open-ended and scenario-based questions 

 

What is the interview process?

Typically, interviews are 1:1 over Zoom, and last about 20 minutes. Interviews are conducted by ASLA staff and current peer leaders.

What is the selection process?

Applications for the 2025-26 academic year will be reviewed during the last two weeks of February, 2025.

ASLA staff will read all complete applications and extend invitations to applicants. Final decisions will be made by May 1, 2025.

What are important dates to keep in mind?

All newly hired peer leaders are expected to attend the following mandatory trainings:

  • New Peer-Leader Orientation, Saturday, May 3, 2025
  • Fall Peer-Leader Orientation, Monday, September 15, 2025
