Maintenance & Housekeeping

Overview

Residential Services employs a variety of staff and partners with other departments and contractors to provide maintenance and housekeeping services on-campus. Residential Services in the main point of contact for any facilities/housekeeping concerns in on-campus housing. 

This web page includes all the information you need to report maintenance concerns to our office as well as information regarding how you report various issues to other departments.

Maintenance Requests

Conference guests and visitors:

University Personnel provide service for University-owned fixtures and equipment. If you require service for items such as non-working lights, clogged plumbing, heating/air conditioning, etc., please submit a Maintenance Request online. Maintenance Requests are prioritized in the order in which they are received as well as the urgency of the issue. 

Maintenance may be performed in resident rooms between 9:00AM-7:00PM daily, except in emergencies. Please note: In order to address requests in a timely manner, University personnel may access resident rooms/apartments whether or not residents are present. University personnel will always knock and announce their presence before entering a resident room/apartment. 

Emergency Repairs (Evenings, Weekends, and Holidays)

The Maintenance Request System is monitored during business hours, Monday-Friday, 7:30AM-4:00PM. To report an emergency concern during these hours, please call Residential Services at (847) 491-5101.

Emergency Concerns outside of these hours should be reported to your Area Desk, Resident Assistant on Duty, or Graduate Resident Assistant on Duty.

Housekeeping

Our Maintenance Technician Team maintains the common areas of the residence halls. Any questions/concerns regarding housekeeping services should be directed to our office at (847) 491-5101.

Bathrooms

In buildings with community bathrooms, bathrooms are serviced daily and cleaned weekly. 

In buildings with suites (Kemper, Schapiro, and Slivka), bathrooms are fully serviced by Maintenance Technician staff at least every other week. Every week toilet paper and hand soap is restocked if a soap dispenser is present. 

In sleeping rooms with private bathrooms, residents are responsible for cleaning but Maintenance Technicians will provide toilet paper and hand soap every week if a soap dispenser is present. Students who have an accomidation request on file  

Lock Outs

Lock Outs and issues with building/room access should be reported directly to your Building/Area Desk for the fastest response. Learn more about lockouts here.

Pest Control

Residential Services partners with an outside contractor to provide pest control services. Pest Control concerns should be reported by submitting a  online ()

Our Pest Control Technician is on-campus Monday-Friday, pest control concerns will be addressed on the same or next business day.

Bed Bugs

Although cases of bed bugs are rare, they do occur. Residential Services has procedures in place to prevent the spread of bed bugs on campus. If you suspect that you might have bed bugs, please submit a  online ()

Laundry Service Requests

Residential Services partners with an outside vendor to service and maintain laundry rooms on campus.

Computer/Phone/Network Concerns

 | Any concerns or requests regarding computers, land-line telephone service, or internet access should be directed to NUIT.
