APIDA Heritage Month

Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) Heritage Month, also known as Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, is an annual observance in the United States that takes place during the month of May. It is dedicated to celebrating and recognizing the diverse and rich cultural heritage, contributions, and histories of Asian Americans, Pacific Islanders, and individuals of Desi (South Asian) descent who have played a significant role in shaping the country.

The term "Desi" typically refers to people from the Indian subcontinent, which includes countries like India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Bhutan. APIDA Heritage Month acknowledges the multifaceted and interconnected experiences of these communities, highlighting their unique cultures, traditions, languages, and histories.

to be featured in the Asian Pacific Islander Desi American Heritage Month list of events.

Please note: Programming for Heritage Months/identity-based recognitions are listed based on the submissions received.

May 6th, May 9th, May 13th, May 16th hosted by Counseling and Psychological Series (CAPS)

In celebration of APIDA heritage month, join Dr. Qianhui Zhang (she/her), clinical psychologist from CAPS, and guest facilitators in a series of healing circles to gather and activate our individual and collective healing in community. Through storytelling, meditation, visualization, and embodiment/somatic exercises, you will be fully seen and heard as you transform your wounds into your gifts. Be prepared to engage in gentle movement, individual reflections, as well as paired or group sharing. Participants can choose how much they want to engage in this space, as long as the safety of the online space is not compromised for the members of the learning community. This session is best experienced in a quiet and safe physical space. Please wear comfortable clothing and have a glass of water (or tea) and a snack for nourishment—along with a journal, writing utensil, yoga mat, and/or cushion.
